Scholarship Program
Women In Tourism Scholarship Program
The mandate of the Binational Tourism Alliance is to increase the awareness of the importance of the tourism industry and cross-border regions to the North American economy. This is becoming increasingly important as we continue to experience unprecedented changes in the global tourism industry.
One important way to do this is through the existing tourism training and professional development programs at recognized academic and training organizations.
The objective of this new scholarship program is to provide binational tourism training opportunities to men and women entering or already involved in the tourism industry. This training will provide valuable and hands-on experience in how to build binational tourism destinations and partnerships.
Thes training can be delivered through a variety of methods:
- Tourism degree programs that offer a specific binational component
- Binational co-op placements related to tourism degree programs
- Tourism training offered by independent training organizations
Recipients must apply for the scholarship, explaining the relevance of their request to their career objectives and how they plan to make the most of the binational training provided.
Our goal is to award 5 individuals with scholarships in the amount of $1000 each annually, beginning tentatively in the fall 2008/winter 2009 academic year.
The BTA already has strong working relationships with Niagara College, Niagara University, Buffalo State College, Brock University and Cornell University. We will be working with these institutions, as well as this our new committee and Foundations on both sides of the border to develop this program over the next few years.
