Recognizing how rapidly the world is changing and the challenges the tourism industry continues to face, the theme for 2008 was:
“SHIFT HAPPENS: Changing Tourism from Service Economy to Creative Economy Binationally”
- what it will take to change the industry image from the public perception of low paying, seasonal, no career opportunities
- why cultural, culinary, recreational, and environmental offerings are critical to destination development
- what other industry sectors and international communities are doing to stay globally competitive
- how cross-border destinations can lead in embracing the critical changes needed to keep the North American tourism industry healthy and growing.
Designed for private, public, and not-for-profit participants, we welcome you to join us for this 3rd annual meeting of tourism, cultural, business, government and academic leaders and what we promise will be an engaging, thought-provoking and results-oriented conference.
Buffalo, New York was selected as the host city for 2008 – the perfect example of a city that is going through many changes and re-inventing itself as a cultural destination.
The Adam’s Mark Hotel in downtown Buffalo was our Summit venue, and provided delegates with a wide array of on-site amenities as well as easy access to the waterfront and downtown shops, theatres, galleries and dining.

3) The latest Web-based Technology and E-Business practices to help you connect and communicate with your customers.
4) Global Tourism and Trade updates – marketing, destination development and partnerships that will keep you competitive.
