January 2008 New travel document requirements Travelers Reminded of New Document Requirements Beginning January 31, 2008 The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of State remind the traveling public that as of Jan. 31, 2008, all adult travelers will be required to present proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate, and proof of identity, such as a driver’s license, when entering the United States through land and sea ports of entry. December 5, 2007 Fact Sheet: Enhanced Driver's Licenses (EDL)
DHS is pursuing development of alternative documents to meet Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) implementation requirements at land and sea ports of entry. DHS is encouraging states to submit proposals to enhance their driver’s licenses and identification documents to satisfy WHTI requirements. To meet WHTI requirements, these documents will denote both identity and citizenship, be issued in a secure process and include technology that facilitates travel. Read more...

October 3, 2007 Document Requirements for Air Travel within Canada Changed
As of September 18, an exemption applying to children between 12 and 17 expired, bringing into full effect Canada’s Identity Screening Regulations which were first introduced in June, 2007 as an element of the Passenger Protect Program. These regulations require that anyone over the age of 12, traveling by air within Canada must have a valid, government-issued piece of photo ID. If the traveler does not have photo ID, two pieces of government-issued ID (without the photo) will be necessary. Acceptable ID is listed on the government’s website at http://www.passengerprotect.gc.ca/identity.html#exemption, and must include the name, date of birth and gender of the bearer.
In addition, the name on the ID must exactly match the name on the boarding pass.
The Passenger Protect Program also includes the Specified Persons List. Anyone included on this list (updated every 30 days) could be denied boarding a flight.

Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff and Vermont Governor Jim Douglas signed an MOU yesterday making Vermont the nation's second state (after Washington) to implement an enhanced driver's license pilot program. read full article
Oct. 1, 2007 IMPORTANT REMINDER: Effective Oct. 1, 2007, the temporary Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative Accommodation will no longer be in effect. U.S. Citizens traveling by air to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda must present a passport or other WHTI-compliant documentation to enter or depart from the United States. read full article
